Hello World!

After meeting so many fans of I Can Has Cheezburger? at SXSW, I thought the time had come to start writing about my experiences working with the thing we used to call the World Wide Web, but that we now call The Interwebs.

If you have a question about I Can Has Cheezburger?, my experience working on the web, or just something you’d like me to write about, feel free to get in touch—my contact info is here—or post a comment.

That being said, let me share a little background. I’ve been extremely fortunate in my career to be around for the start of a lot of stuff on the web. I never really sought this out…I just followed my nose to stuff that seemed interesting and have had some amazing experiences.

As the web was just getting it’s legs, I worked for a Silicon Alley startup called Small World Software in New York, then moved to Seattle to work on ESPN.com at Paul Allen’s Starwave. That was a very special time because everything was new and adventurous…nobody knew the rules for how the Internet was going to work and we were all just trying to figure it out.

A few years later, e-commerce was the new thing that seemed like a compelling challenge (which it was) and I joined the launch team at drugstore.com. I spent 8 years there—about half the time working directly on the technology, and the other half with marketing and product management. My time at drugstore.com was a roller-coaster through the ups-and-downs of the dot-com boom and bust, and then an era of the web settling into a (somewhat) more mature business.

But, 8 years at one place was too long because I’m a “startup guy”…I like taking an idea and turning it into something. So, now I’m exploring Internet memes and culture, and user-generated content with I Can Has Cheezburger? Its been an amazing ride so far, and it’s nowhere near over yet!

  1. I bit on Twitter and am now a daily follower of Icanhascheezberger! It came up as an automatic follow. (very clever) I have seen snippets in the past but now I am hooked, line and sinker! You are amazing! The never-ending links have caused me follow for more than an hour at times! Maybe I need to get a life but I love to laugh out loud! Thank-you for this source of enjoyment!
