Content Development and The Clean Area

with one comment

At lunch yesterday, I was discussing with Scott G. from TuneyFish.com their content strategy.  TuneyFish.com shows how-to videos for car maintenance and modification.

In a nutshell, he was trying to figure out how to grow and his dilemma was whether to focus on developing content in one specific area, or as many areas as possible.  In considering his situation, I thought of  The Clean Area.

One of the lessons of The Clean Area is to focus your energy on one single, achievable task.   By focusing on a smaller task, you can have success and create something to build on.

My response to him: focus on one (or maybe two or three) areas where you want TuneyFish to be the absolutely content leader.  Boil it down to very small areas, such as a specific modification, and using all the tools of online marketing and social media establish leadership.  Then, when you’ve conquered those areas, move on to the next.

In other words, make one area clear of pine cones before moving on to another.  You will gain learning about how to do it most effectively, and the progress and success will provide motivation going forward.

  1. Thanks Scott, I thought the meeting was a great success. :)

I believe clarity arrives once you have started The Clean Area, and others realize the benefit for having it. Same goes for content.

Its amazing how easy things become when you have at least one Clean Area to be proud of.
