Tips for Successful Blogging from Peter Shankman
Yesterday, I had the pleasure of hearing Peter Shankman explain why he thinks his service that connects reporters to sources, called HARO, works. Allow me to summarize some of the key points from his presentation:
- HARO is transparent. As more and more people create content online, transparency is going to become ever more important. Transparency enables the consumer to trust (or at least understand) the authenticity and authority of the creator.
- HARO is consistent. HARO is delivered everyday, so that the users can learn to rely on it. The result of this consistency is loyalty.
- HARO is brief. With the endless information overload, the ability for consumers to digest, assimilate and move on has never been more important. [Bonus thought from Peter: "Do you want to know the best way to be brief? Learn how to write." As messaging gets shorter and shorter, into tweet-like bursts, being able to make your point succinctly has never been more important.]
All good points that can be applied toward being successful at blogging as well.
