Scott Golembiewski and TuneyFish
A startup is really a process of learning. Learning how to build a team, learning how to build a product efficiently and effectively, learning how to understand what your customers or audience wants…the learning never ends.
I spend a lot of time talking to people who are doing web startups, and often we have amazing conversations about the things we’re learning. So, I decided to try recording these conversations to see if others would enjoy them as well. In other words, podcasts!
My first podcast is with Scott Golembiewski, the founder of TuneyFish.com. I’m really impressed by how Scott has adapted his business in search of a model that works. He knows there’s opportunity out there, and he’s determined to find it.

I like the idea you bring up at about 30:40 of getting someone else you show you what they’re doing and flatter them – it really is like turning the tables where you’re no longer prodding them, but instead praising them. What’s the analogy? “You’ll catch more bees with honey than vinegar”
Another thing it sounded like you talked a lot about was that Mr. Golembiewski wasn’t getting traffic from just posting his youtube videos. Search engines haven’t (yet) figured out how to index video yet, but you can manually get it done if you want to keep going with just video. One solution is to hire a transcriber, or see here: http://www.matthewbredel.com/574/captioning-and-subtitling-on-youtube-for-seo.html
I’ve got a similar situation with my photography blog, people can’t find me if I just have a photo. I first started by just adding in METADATA to the page with keywords, but then started writing up the scenario where I took the photo. People like the “personal” touch that shows you’re a living breathing person behind the site.
The second thing is share and share-alike. You want people to come to your site, right? Well, on that same token, contribute on your competitors site/blog. They want the same thing you do. Be informative across the industry, and by contributing and linking back to your site with the comment, people will start to see your expertise.
Good podcast though, I look forward to more!
