For the Record: Joe Paterno
I stand by my earlier words, that I was sad to lose Joe Paterno as a hero. I still believe that the world needs heros, and striving to be a hero makes a life worth living.
As I wrote at the time, my comments were made, “not because I believe he was innocent—none of us…really know what happened, so we are not in a position to judge.”
Yet now we do know what happened, and I want to reiterate, for the record, that those comments were not intended to defend or excuse Paterno’s actions. To me, child abusers, and their protectors, are the lowest of the low.
